ANNA B SAVAGE (UK) live
Irish artist Anna B Savage, known for her unique brand of indie/art-pop, will perform for the first time in Romania – Wednesday, May 28, at Control Club, Bucharest, as part of DokStation Music Documentary Film Festival, 9th edition.
Anna B Savage‘s artful and subtly theatrical music defies categorization, blending rich influences with her unique vocal style. Her voice – strong and sonorous, yet with a vulnerability that feels as if she’s in the same room as you.
Linking music and literature, building a bridge between the written and the sung – only the greats have managed to do this in the past. Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker, and Patti Smith were just some of the shining stars that Anna B Savage orientated herself towards as a teenager.
Born on the anniversary of Bach’s death, the young musician spent her birthday every year in the Green Room of the Royal Albert Hall watching her parents perform compositions by the grand master. That shaped her.
Today, the singer–songwriter is one of the truly exceptional talents on the British independent scene. In her music, otherworldly vocals nestle up against chamber orchestral compositions, delicate arrangements rise up and blow away, and the musician’s highly eclectic sound grows song by song into an experience that lingers for days and weeks. Potentially life-changing.

SONGHOY BLUES (Mali) live
Probably Mali’s best export, Tuareg rockers Songhoy Blues will perform for the first time in Romania – Wednesday, May 28 at Expirat, Bucharest, as part of DokStation — Music Documentary Film Festival, 9th edition.
The four young friends from north-eastern Mali who make up desert punk/blues band Songhoy Blues are set to light up our DokStation live series with their infectious, joyful grooves.
Once one of the most prominent and powerful of Mali’s many ethnic groups, the Songhoy, who hail from the banks of the Niger River between the ancient cities of Timbuktu and Gao, have suffered a long slow decline since their apogee in the 6th and 17th centuries. Now largely living on the margins of the West African nation whose political and cultural life is dominated by the Bambara people of the south, they nonetheless retain a fierce pride in their history, beliefs and music.
”Close harmonies and delicate percussion front and centre showcase the band’s songwriting finesse on their beguiling fourth album” – The Guardian
” Blues in its fundamental sense: refugee music, played with redemptive joy, but suffused with inconsolable longing” – Uncut
